Fredericton, NB, October 18, 2018 –   The Sara Burns Police Memorial Fund raised $136K during a highly successful one-month donation-matching campaign launched by the fund and supported by local IT and cybersecurity company, Bulletproof.  100% of the funds raised will go to helping people in need in our communities.

“We were really inspired to be a part of this effort to make a lasting impact on the community with a fund like this,” says Bulletproof COO, Jeff Shaw.  “Sara Burns was the wife of our co-founder and CEO, Steve Burns, and her influence on our company and culture of community support throughout the years was always there.  That Sara was one of the people that tragically lost her life in service to the community on August 10th was very hard for us all.  We know how devoted Sara was to her charities and community so at a time when many of us felt helpless, donating to Sara’s fund to help others felt like the most meaningful contribution we could make.  We wanted to help ignite this fund-raising campaign by matching $50,000 in donations and I couldn’t be happier about the effect that has had on the campaign’s success.”

On September 15th, Bulletproof announced that it would match up to $50,000 in funds raised up until October 15, 2018.   Ways to give included making donations via the Fredericton Community Foundation Inc. CanadaHelps page and purchasing Sara’s tribute song “We’d Rather Have You,” written by family friend, Steve Patterson, available for $0.99 download on iTunes and Spotify.

While song sales are yet to be tallied, the matching campaign exceeded its $50K target, bringing in $86K as of October 15th.  This morning, Mr. Shaw presented a $50K cheque to the Fund during an announcement held at the Fredericton Community Foundation Inc.

“The community support and campaign success truly bring happy tears to my eyes,” says Steve Burns, husband of Sara and founder of the Sara Burns Police Memorial Fund.  “This has been the silver-lining to this tragedy; that our community and everyone grieving could come together and make their community a little bit better, a little bit brighter, especially when faced with hard times.  With the $136K generated during the matching campaign combined with the funds raised before it launched, I am pleased to announce that the Sara Burns Police Memorial Fund now sits at just over $200K.  All these monies will go directly to help people in need in our communities and this will be a legacy fund that will carry on forever.   My goal is to raise $1M over the next 5 years and with that type of fund we can help a lot of people for years to come.  I know that if my wife were here, she would be smiling from ear to ear—she always believed in her community of Fredericton and its people. From the bottom of my heart and on behalf of the entire Burns and Bulletproof Families, we are so thankful for all the support and contributions.”
